Dubuque uses shootout to best Green Bay, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dubuque Fighting Saints defeated the Green Bay Gamblers in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Green Bay got a shootout goal from Kyle Novak. Dubuque's other shootout goal was scored by Shane Sooth.

The 33 shots that the Fighting Saints put on net surpassed Dubuque's average of 28.0 shots per game this season.

The Fighting Saints were led by Mike Szmatula, who racked up one goal and one assist. Szmatula scored on the power play 14:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dubuque. Dubuque had gained a power play chance when Brendan Lemieux was whistled for holding. Seamus Malone provided the assist. Eric Freschi also scored for Dubuque. In addition, Dubuque received assists from Jeff Taylor and Niklas Nevalainen, who each chipped in one.

The Gamblers failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 22 pucks on goal after averaging 28.7 shots per game this season.

Green Bay was helped by Grigory Dikushin, who registered one goal. Dikushin scored 12:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Green Bay. Lemieux assisted on the tally. Green Bay also got a goal from Ryan Siroky as well. Other players who recorded assists for Green Bay were Matthew Weis, who had one.

Connor Girard made 20 saves for the Fighting Saints on 22 shots. Dubuque totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Richard Sabol rejected 30 shots on goal for the Gamblers. Green Bay totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
